Tendonitis

Tendonitis is an injury involving inflammation to the tendon, which is a type of connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone. Symptoms of tendonitis are pain, stiffness, swelling and redness at the affected area. Treatment involves resting the area, applying cold therapy and sometimes wearing a brace for additional support. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help reduce pain and inflammation.

One common type of tendonitis that manifests itself in the lower leg is Achilles tendonitis. The Achilles tendon is the large tendon located behind the ankle. It connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. Achilles tendonitis is most commonly the result of a running injury caused by overuse or over training.
