Physical therapy, sometimes referred to as rehabilitation, is a critical part of recovery from many types of injuries. Physical therapy involves several processes, namely evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to restore maximum movement and function to the affected area. A patient will undergo several sessions of stretching and strengthening exercises carried out over several weeks or even months. These exercises usually are performed under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
